Disclaimer: Thanks to Toyota for letting me test drive the 2017 Toyota 4Runner in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Last month meant a wonderful trip to Anaheim, California. During my stay in the sunshine state, I got to test-drive the 2017 Toyota 4Runner Limited. I miss driving a “big car”. The handling and space in this vehicle were some of my favorite features. I felt like I was in complete control during my drive. The 2017 Toyota 4Runner has made my list of one of the top favorite vehicles I have driven.

2017 Toyota 4Runner Limited Review – Space
The 2017 Toyota 4Runner isn’t limited on space. For a compact, later mid-size SUV, the interior is incredibly roomy. I felt comfortable in the driver’s seat has enough room to control the vehicle and not bother my passengers in the back. There as plenty of room in the center console for drinks, cell phones and I was also able to leave my wallet near me to pay for parking, etc. Something that I take note of while test-driving because I hate fumbling for my purse in the back of the car.
I noticed that the window controls were located a bit higher than what I am used to. Above the door handle instead of alongside it. That took some getting used to at first but I think the placement is perfect for the size of the vehicle. I also noticed that there are not as many blind spots as I expected.
Getting luggage into the back was not an issue. There is plenty of room for two check-in luggage pieces and multiple carry-on. With three adults and two children, we fit everything in the back with room to spare. There is also an AC 120V outlet in the back. I have come to like this feature in some of the newer SUV styles.
2017 Toyota 4Runner Limited Review – Performance
The ride in the 2017 Toyota 4 Runner is incredibly smooth. California highways can tend to be a little rough but I never noticed it. There is something about having a smooth ride when you’re in a new vehicle. It helps the driver, and everyone else in the car, feel comfortable. There is also plenty of “get up and go”. The size of this vehicle does not slow it down.
I expected the gas mileage to be worse than it was. We didn’t excessively drive everywhere, but it was enough to have noticed a difference. I don’t think I saw the needle move more than a notch.
The turn radius was also pretty amazing. In a larger vehicle, you expect to have a harder time getting around. I had to turn around in a tight parking garage and never felt like I was going to hit something or needed to back in and out several times to make the turn.
2017 Toyota 4Runner Limited Review -Technology
The awesome thing about the 2017 Toyota 4Runner is that it isn’t built for just the commute. It is built for just about anything. With L4L, H4L, and H4F options, it is built for both work and play. Frp, highways to low-traction surfaces, the 2017 Toyota 4Runner can get through just about anything.
Another option I am a fan of in newer vehicles is the ability to save seat settings. Do you have the same issue I have where my husband gets into my car and changes the seat position without putting them back? Of course, I want him to be comfortable driving but it does make me eye-roll to hit my knees on my steering wheel when I get back into the car. The ability to save settings for two different drivers is simply genius. Just a push of the button and the seat moves to whatever setting is selected. Someone was thinking of their spouse when this was invented.
I noticed this 2017 Toyota 4Runner also had the auto-lock feature when I walked away from the vehicle. When I have the keyfob on me, the doors will auto-lock when I walk away from the vehicle. I know some do complain about this feature but I find it user-friendly. With two small kids, it is helpful so that I can keep a hold on them in a parking lot and not fumble for my keys.
Overall I really enjoyed this vehicle. I think it is one of my top favorites that I have test driven. My passengers noted how lovely the interior is. The interior is very classy. The 2017 Toyota 4Runner is a beautiful car to drive daily but it packs the punch that is needed to play. If you have a family who needs lots of room, this one is for you. Plenty of space in the cargo area for sports gear, luggage, or even school snack day foods. The kids will have plenty of room of their own too. An incredibly comfortable car for just about anything.
