Who says you have to spend a ton when it comes time to hosting a party with football tailgate food and fun? It is easy to put together a table spread without break the bank this football season. Especially when you love football and food.
Little touches to any table can take it to the house when it comes to sharing in the fun of game day. Let’s start with a simple and easy way to decorate canning jars for fun ways to sip Coca-Cola during the Big Game.
Canning Jar Football Cups
What You Need:
- 16-oz. wide-mouthed canning jars
- 3mm yellow washi tape
Start buy using a clean 16-oz. wide-mouth canning jar. I used 3mm yellow washi tape that I already happened to have in my crafting supplies. You can find this at most craft stores. Measure out about 2 inches of the washi tape, and vertically place on a smooth surface part of the canning jars. Measure out three smaller (about an inch) strips to horizontally place over the vertical washi tape. This gives it that “football laces” look. How simple and fun is that?
Football Themed Straw Flags
What You Need:
- Created Printable
Now, grab yours straws because I’ve created a printable for you. Since this year’s Big Game is 50, let’s commemorate this with these straw flags. If you use these for another game day party, they are perfect as the 50 yard line.
Simply print out the printable I’ve supplied you, and cut out each flag separately.
Add tape to one end of each flag. Also add another small bit of tape toward the center to attach to your straws. Lay the straw over the center tape.
Simply fold the flag over until both ends are even and secure.
Drop in your straws to your canning jars, and you’ve got yourself great DIY decor for your table.
You can also check out my DIY Tailgate Coasters for added fun to the table. I also recommend using preserved moss under your snacks and drinks for that “turf” look on your table.

Start by chopping 6 scallions and 2 jalapeno peppers. Use half of the chopped scallions and jalapeno peppers to line the bottom of your slow cooker. Add pork shoulder over the top, and lightly season with salt and pepper. Add the rest of the chopped scallions and jalapeno peppers over the top of the pork shoulder.
In a medium mixing bowl, add in 2 cups of barbecue sauce of choice. I prefer something sweet and spicy. Pour slowly in the 16.9 ounce bottle of Coke Zero and stir.
Once your pork shoulder is thoroughly cooked, remove onto a cutting board. Use a large serving fork and meat knife to separate the pork and shred.
Add shredded pork into a medium mixing bowl. Add in 1/2 cup of leftover barbecue sauce and stir to cover all the meat. Add more sauce if you like.
