Disclaimer: I received Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 released this week on 4K Ultra HD™ and Blu-ray! My husband and I had a chance to sit down and review a copy. Let me first start off by mentioning that Guardians of the Galaxy is my favorite Marvel comic. There is something about the story-lines that are playful and a bit more comedic than other Marvel series. Read on for my Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review
I first want to share my amazement with the resolution and quality of this film. More and more I am blown away by the effects that Marvel Studios puts on. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 marks the Studios first in-home title to release in stunning 4K Ultra HD format. It is truly the ultimate home entertainment experience with next-generation high dynamic range visuals and Dolby Atmos immersive audio. I was blown away with just how eye pleasing the definition is for this film.
Of course, the film features pretty sweet tunes. Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt as Peter Quill) “Awesome Mixtape #2” gives us something to tap our toes to. There is nothing like a good fight scene set to ‘Wham Bang Shang-A-Lang’ by Silver. The music is just another reason why I’ve always enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy. The soundtrack is always placed at key moments that give a whimsical and nostalgic touch.
The Epic Story
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a pretty epic story:
Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, the film’s storyline continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians (Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket) must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.
The film unravels a lot of partnerships, but brings together some pretty thrilling new ones. Yondu (Michael Rooker), without giving too much away, is a character you will come to highly respect and love. I honestly have never shed a tear at a Marvel movie before…until now. I never thought Guardians of the Galaxy would give me more emotion outside of just thrill and laughter. It gave me all the feels. Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) even left me in a heartbreak moment. Who doesn’t love Baby Groot?!
Having Kurt Russel, as Ego in the film, brings back that guy you love to hate. Kurt Russel is known for that typecast and he doesn’t disappoint. We get an awesome look into Peter’s lineage, and boy does it have epic proportions. It is actually very twisted and eye-opening to Peter’s past and present.
Bonus Features and More
Be sure to check out the Bonus Features for some fun outtakes and gag reel. My husband and I had a good laugh while watching. You can also learn more about the adorable and funny Baby Groot in the The Making of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” feature.
The critical scenes are awesome. The relationships between the Guardians have grown. The music, the effects, story and acting were all on point. I honestly enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 even better than the first film. My only disappointed is that we’re coming to a close end to a great Marvel series. My Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review is two-thumbs way up. An epic story that made me feel just about every emotion possible. I have an all new love for my favorite characters and some I didn’t even think I liked. You’ll want to catch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 for your in-home collection for a wild ride and good time.
