Because my husband is third-generation Italian, we have always been very curious about his famiglia’s past. Personally, I find it wonderful that my husband comes from such a rich culture in food and love. This is why we are working to begin Sunday evening meals with our family. Therefore, I have been practicing my Italian cuisine. My best one to date is my Marinara Sauce with Cheese Meatball Recipe. While I am certainly not perfect, this German heritage girl has been whipping up this bene recipe. And with Mezzetta Marinara sauces that are real, all natural, have no added sugar, no paste and no shortcuts, this recipe has real authentic flavor. Making it a key ingredient in support of our family eating “real foods”.
Fresh from the Garden
We recently began using fresh herbs from our garden because there is a feeling of “home” when you are able to use ingredients that you helped cultivate. My favorite piece to this recipe is my lemon thyme. It completes the recipe by infusing the garlic with a citrus and pungent tang. A bit of zing without muting the flavors. A “farm to table” feel.
More of Mezzetta Pasta Sauces
What Italian infused recipes are your favorite? While other sauces do well in bringing the flavor of Italy home, Mezzetta pasta sauces are most noteworthy if you want something simple with the fewest, freshest and finest ingredients. We noticed a big difference in sweetness, flavor and consistency with Mezzetta. Plus, I just loved seeing the garlic cloves at the bottom of the jar. That screams “this is going to be good“ to me.

Marinara Sauce with Cheese Meatball Recipe
Let’s get right into the fun of this Marinara Sauce with Cheese Meatball Recipe. This recipe is actually infused with the Whole Garlic & Sweet Basil Mezzetta sauce. While others tend to use mozzarella cheese to stuff their meatballs with, I went with something a little different. I tried extra sharp cheddar cheese. With the lemon thyme, garlic and sharp cheddar, it almost has the flavor of a good Sauvignon Blanc wine. Mixed with the flavors of the sweet basil and San Marzano tomatoes, you have yourself an adventure of flavor.
Enjoy this simple Marinara Sauce with Cheese Meatball Recipe. An infusion of spices, sauce and cheese. A adventure in Italy with a quick family dinner.
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 block of extra sharp cheddar cheese (cubed)
- 1 tbsp lemon thyme
- 1 egg
- 2 white bread slices to crumble
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup Mezzetta's Whole Garlic & Sweet Basil
Preheat oven to 375°.
In a medium size bowl, mix in ground beef, lemon thyme, egg, black pepper and crumble bread slices into the mix.
Mix well until beef is well saturated with other ingredients.
Cube sharp cheddar cheese about 1/2 inch each.
Take some of the meat mixture and wrap it around one of the cubed cheese. Ensure to cover all of the cheese.
Continue this with all of the meatballs.
Shake the Mezzetta's Whole Garlic & Sweet Basil sauce in the container to mix well.
Taking a baster, add the Mezzetta's Whole Garlic & Sweet Basil sauce into the baster.
Carefully infuse each meatball with just enough of the sauce to fill it. It is okay if it overruns a bit.
Using parchment paper, cover a baking sheet and evenly place the meatballs onto the sheet.
Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes.
Serve with pasta and warm Mezzetta's Whole Garlic & Sweet Basil Sauce.
