Air fryer tips help anyone who is new to this amazing kitchen tool. But what should you know before you buy an air fryer? Here are a few things you need to consider before purchasing an air fryer and some of the most important air fryer tips you should have.
An air fryer is a game changer for any family. Especially if you are like us. My family tends to have an odd schedule. My husband and I work odd hours, we homeschool, and travel tends to be in our calendar.
Having an air fryer in our home, I have been able to get meals on our table quickly. Just the other day, I cooked hamburgers in the air fryer. Hamburgers, guys! They were the best hamburgers we have ever cooked at home too. With an air fryer, I have no more excuses to not cook at home.
Air Fryer Tips – What To Know Before You Buy an Air Fryer
Make Sure You Purchase the Correct Size
I think one of the biggest mistakes people make when purchasing an air fryer is that they do not purchase the correct size. There are a variety of air fryer sizes so what one should you choose? Rule of thumb is that if you are a couple or a family of two, stick with a smaller size air fryer between 2.2-3.7 quarts.
Any family that is larger than that, purchase a large air fryer between 5-6 quarts or an extra-large air fryer between 8-16 quarts. We are a family of four so I chose a 5-quart. Honestly, I wish I had chosen a 6 quart for a little bit of extra room but I can cook fine in the 5-quart size.
Make Sure You Have a Good Scrubber
The basket in an air fryer can become very caked with food. Especially if you cook raw meat or cheese. Make sure you have a good scrubber on hand.
You don’t want to use something so abrasive that it ruins the coating within the basket but you also need something stronger enough to get through anything. I recommend the Scrub Daddy or the awesome brushes that I purchase through Grove.
Don’t Wash the Basket in the Dishwasher
Yes, almost every air fryer brand will say that the basket is dishwasher safe. However, I do not recommend it. The coating within the basket is awesome and it breaks down over time. Ensure that your air fryer lasts longer by simply hand washing it. There are so many grooves anyway that needs some extra TLC.
Be Ready to Adjust
There are so many air fryer recipes available online now. One thing I have noticed is the comments. People complaining that their air fryer didn’t cook at the time the recipe creator suggested. Breath, guys.
Be prepared to adjust the timing of any recipe to your air fryer. Each brand is a little different and I have noticed sometimes I need to add 5 minutes to a recipe I am using online. For example, the burgers I just cooked. The recipe called for 8 minutes. My air fryer needed around 15 minutes to properly cook the meat to our preference. No big deal.
Oil Does Help
One of the biggest air fryer tips? Yes, cooking without oil is healthier. One of the reasons an air fryer is amazing. However, I recommend still using a light layer over foods. Especially if you are using seasoning as it will help keep those in place to not clog the filter in the air fryer.
Plus, a very thin layer will keep foods from becoming overly dry while cooking. You do not need to go overboard with the oil and continue to keep the recipe healthier. Just a light spray or brush.
An air fryer is a big game changer in the kitchen but it isn’t just out of the box and done. Know that an air fryer does take some time to properly clean, it will take some adjusting to get recipes that you find elsewhere, and you do need to take size into account.
Don’t just purchase the cheapest one you find. Do your research in reviews, what options it has that you need for your family, size, etc. Having an air fryer is awesome and you want to ensure you invest in something that will last.
