These Easy Apple Dumplings are delicious! I don’t normally start out my recipes like that but seriously. These were the most simple desserts that I have ever made and loved.
I will mention that these dessert dumplings are very sweet and you will probably be satisfied after eating just one. One the Weight Watchers scale, they run at 7 points per dumpling. Not too shabby for a good dessert!
My kids and I also used this recipe for a homeschool lesson. When you’re teaching your kiddos about measurements in the kitchen, this is a great recipe to use because of how easy it is.
What is the best apple to use for dumplings?
There is a lot of debate about what apple type is best to use for apple dumplings. I personally prefer Granny Smith green apples. They will make the recipe very sweet but they compliment so well with the Mountain Dew or lime soda.
Can you reheat apple dumplings?
One of the biggest things about apple dumplings is that they taste the best when warm. However, if you put them into the microwave for too long, the filling will stick and the dumpling will harden. It basically turns more into a Jolly Rancher than a dessert.
To reheat this dessert, place them in a microwave-safe container, preferably one with a lid. Add one tablespoon of water and loosely cover. Microwave for forty-five seconds. Cut them in half before heating to ensure they warm evenly in the center.
What you need to make Green Apple Dumplings

- Granny Smith Apples
- Sugar
- Cinnamon
- Melted Butter
- Mountain Dew
How to make Apple Dumplings
Begin by pealing all of the apples and slicing them into eighths. Unroll the Crescent Rolls and cover each apple slice with a triangle or so of the rolls.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mix together melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon.
Add the covered apple slices into a non-greased pie pan and ensure they don’t touch.
Spread each dumpling with the sugar mixture until each top is covered well. Pour over the Mountain Dew.
Bake at 350° for about 45-minutes. Until the dumplings are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool. Serve warm.
This recipe makes two pie pans worth of apple dumplings and can easily feed a small crowd. Perfect for a dessert during a party or family gathering. Serve with a side of vanilla ice cream for an even better treat.
