Easy Play Dough Recipe

An easy play dough recipe makes for a fun way to create an indoor activity for kids. Our daughter’s preschool has one of the parents supply homemade play dough every month. Between blogging, taking care of her and my son and making sure my family had healthy meals on the table, I knew I didn’t have a lot of time to spend on making it.

I grabbed my daughter to help make the homemade play dough, and we went to town creating it. Time with my daughter and an item checked off the to-do list. Done. Here’s this easy play dough recipe for you to make at home.

Easy Play Dough Recipe

This easy play dough recipe makes about a medium Tupperware sized batch.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil

Don’t have time to head to the store for the ingredients? Let it come to you by purchasing a few of the ingredients below.

How To Make Homemade Play Dough

  1. Mix flour, cream of tartar and salt into a large pot.
  2. Add water and oil.
  3. Over medium heat, cook and stir constantly until it forms a ball.
  4. Remove from heat and store in airtight container.

A fun thing to do with this recipe is added food coloring. Only add a couple of drops to mix in, or you will have a mess. I also love adding a few drops of essential oils into the mix. Lavender is divine and calming. Nothing like a little zen while actively using the imagination.

You can purchase a bottle of Lavender from my Young Living store. If you do purchase anything, I do receive a commission.

Homemade play dough is even better than store-bought; in my opinion. It is a natural play dough recipe that you know what ingredients are going into it. Plus, it is a lot cheaper! Another successful indoor activity for kids idea that might even let you sneak away to get the dishes done so you can catch up on the latest episode of your favorite show when the kids are in bed.
