Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix
** This ingredient measurement is for a more “mild” seasoning. If you prefer more heat to your tacos, add a little more of the pepper flakes. About 1/8 tsp at a time.
Simply mix all of the ingredients in a small bowl and store in an airtight container.
The mixture will remain fresh for a good period of time, so long as it remains in the airtight container.
If you are looking for glass airtight containers, I recommend the Oggi 4 Piece Airtight Glass Canister Set with Clamp Lids and Silicone Gaskets. The silicone keeps the glass jars airtight and is easy to seal with the clamps. Plus, they look great.
Using the Seasoning
When using this mix, be sure to brown your meat properly and drain the grease from your pan.
Never wash grease down the sink. This can ruin your pipes. Simply drain it into a bowl, let harden and throw away.
Return meat to the pan and sprinkle a hand full of seasoning over the mixture with about 1/4 cup of water.
Mix well in with the meat to coat it. It should turn a nice golden color. If you would like, add more seasoning to taste.
This seasoning brings out the flavor of the meat without overpowering it with spices. Serve with your favorite taco fixings, and enjoy!
