Company coming over to celebrate these last few weeks of summer? No one wants to cook indoors on a hot day so why not learn how to make homemade pizza on the grill?
I will start by saying that making pizza on the grill isn’t exactly simple but it beats heating up the house. Plus, it has a flavor of nearly wood-fired pizza.
How to Make Homemade Pizza on the Grill
To make homemade pizza on the grill, you will first need a pizza stone with carrying rack for the grill. The carrying rack makes it so much easier to transfer the pizza stone to and from the grill.
No matter if you are using a gas or charcoal grill, you will want to place the pizza stone with carrying rack onto the grill for about 5 minutes to preheat and ensure your grill gets to around 450° F.
Make sure the handles are facing up when placing it on the grill. That might sound obvious but I will admit I had to double check myself.
Once your stone has been preheated, slide your prepared pizza onto the center of the stone and replace the grill cover.
It will usually take between 5-10 minutes to cook a pizza on the grill but time can vary. Be sure to use your senses to judge the timing. You will be able to smell any burning and see when the crust begins to brown.
Remove the pizza stone with grilled pizza by using oven mitts to grasp the carrying handles. Place the rack with pizza stone somewhere that is safe from the excessive heat. Remove the grilled pizza with a large spatula or pizza peel.
Grilled pizza is absolutely delicious and such a great way to get everyone over for a different kind of backyard barbecue.
I like to pair my grilled pizza with 2017 CK Mondavi and Family Pinot Grigio. I enjoy using balsamic vinegar on my grilled pizza and the two sweet combinations of balsamic and Pinot Grigio are sublime.
