Rivers of Light Officially Opens at Animal Kingdom
I know this show has been long awaited by many. After some delays, I can assure you it has been worth the wait. The colors and music are a gorgeous arrangement. You are moved by the reminder of the magic of nature. The music quickly reminded me of the Disney film: Brother Bear. The soundtrack from that movie always gets to me, and Rivers of Light did the same.
The show lasts approximately 15 minutes. There is also a dining experience and premium seating packages for Rivers of Light, prior to the show, that you may book. Booking opened on Thursday, February 9th. Be sure to look into reservations quickly as I am sure they have been filling fast. FastPass+ is also offered, so be sure to check your My Disney Experience app.
More About the Show
The show begins with lotus flower floats that move slowly into position. As they open, the waters begin to dance with light. You can feel the anticipation that a grand show will soon begin.
As the storytellers boat emerges, you are mesmerized by their authentic Asian dance and shadow puppetry. They never speak a word, but you will understand every bit of their story.
The lantern lights of the spirit animals, Tiger, Turtle, Elephant and Owl, are beautiful. It is stunning how the imagineers have woven this show together. The way the lights twist together in these lanterns to create a show of their own within them is truly breathtaking. You will be immersed in so many things to look at, you might want to even see the show again to catch every detail.
FUN FACT: Watch closely to the water projections. Some of the footage is straight from the loved Disney Nature films.
As I mentioned before, the music truly got to me. I love a good musical score. When the chorus gets under your skin and awakens your soul, that’s when you know something magical has happened. Listen and watch this preview below to see what I mean:
Description of the Show From Disney
“Get swept away in a timeless show that celebrates the beauty of all living things. With a brilliant fusion of water, sound and light, it’s quite unlike anything you’ve experienced before!
As sunlight fades and the stars begin their twinkle, remember that we are all bound together by earth and spirit—past, present and future.
Listen as the Discovery River responds to the whispers of the world, cradling creatures with a symphony that swells with wild murmurs and shimmering secrets of the universe.
So begins a new light—a vibrant awakening of flitting fireflies leading to a ceremonious procession across the water.
Before your eyes, clusters of lantern light shift and shape into stunning animal spirit forms—the Tiger, Turtle, Elephant and Owl. Spellbound, you’re transported across Asian jungles and tropical oceans to African savannahs and North American mountains.
This magnetic display culminates in a triumphant blend of song, light, color and earthly elements—a grand finale so divine that you can’t help but feel a sense of peace and oneness with nature.”
Disney’s Animal Kingdom was overdue for a face lift, in my opinion. The new shows and Pandora bring a breath of fresh air to this loved park. The nighttime magic hunger is finally fed as Rivers of Light officially opens at Animal Kingdom.
The biggest of thanks to the 2017 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration that we were invited to attend with a conference fee. We received discounted and complimentary items from Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, and their sponsors during our stay. While not required to write about our experiences, I wanted to share with you these amazing memories. All opinions are my own.
