Strawberry Salsa Summer Snack

by Krystal Chiarolla

A focus our family has this summer is getting to know where our foods come from and this Strawberry Salsa is a perfect summer snack.

I am pleased to be working with California Giant that has supplied us with an amazing amount of strawberries to enjoy and is a company that stands behind their message and their farmers.

Strawberry Salsa

After attending Food Wine Conference this year, I was blown away by how small of the US population are farmers (2%), but what an impact they are. I’ll never forget the quote:

We are not using land from our ancestors, we are borrowing it from our children…

That is something critical to think on. California Giant is proud to be among the 97% of US farms owned by families. Their mission stands right with what I heard at Food Wine Conference.

We believe that “giving back” isn’t just about philanthropy. To us, it’s about protecting the land in which we grow our berries so that we will continue to have viable farming in our communities for generations to come. It’s about caring for people, both within our company and our communities. Here are several ways that we practice Earth-friendliness….

These are the people we want to be purchasing our foods from. These are the people we want to support because they want to support us.

Farms have sadly dwindled over the past several decades, but the hope and the mission are still pressing onward.

Grow your foods in a home garden, buy from local farmers. “Farm to table” is important because it provides nutrition in our homes that are trusted, and provides suitability for our future.

And families out there? I get it. Trying to find local areas that sell produce from family-owned farms isn’t always easy. California Giant makes this easier by providing a “Where to Buy” link on their webpage.

Here in Washington, you can find California Giant in Costco and Kroger stores. Plus using the iBotta app, you can also find a coupon for your next California Giant purchase. Strawberries with a mission aren’t so far away anymore here in the Pacific Northwest.

How You Can Summer Snack and More

Now that we’ve got the strawberries home and on the table, how can we use them for better snacking this summer? Be sure to buy your strawberries at peak season for the best flavor. Usually April through June.

You can purchase a bulk amount and freeze them too; for use throughout the year. Strawberries are perfect for jams, desserts, and even salsa; which I’m going to share with you here in a minute.

Need a fun way to show your kids where their food comes from?

With California Giant, you can enter the trackback code from your recyclable berry container on their website and virtually visit the farm where those berries were grown. How cool is that?!

Let’s get busy with a strawberry salsa summer snack!
