Have kids who love to build with building blocks and play with cars? This is the perfect indoor activity on rainy days. Create an Indoor Big City Activity with simple painter’s tape and toys. We had painter’s tape left over from our DIY: Valentine’s Day Kid’s Canvas Art. A great way to get everyone involved in some fun.
It doesn’t take much to put this idea together. You simply will need painter’s tape that you might have around the house, or can pick up for only a few dollars. If your kids have building blocks, cars, wooden train tracks around the house, perfect. The rest is imagination.
I personally love this idea because it helps kids create. It also keeps toys at bay and not scattered all over the room. I think it helps teach kids how to keep things somewhat in an organized state, without over thinking it.
Grab the painter’s tape and lay down a large square on the carpet. Don’t worry. The tape comes up easily without any damage. From there, add a few squares and rectangles into the middle of the large square. You can get as crafty as you want with other shapes. Rub the painter’s tape down so no one trips over it.
Tell the kids to grab the building blocks, cars, and tracks. Whatever they want. I had our kids keep each in different toy boxes so we could easily decipher what building tools we wanted to use for our indoor big city.
We built an airport, a fire station, hospital, and even a monster truck rally. This was seriously hours of fun. When my husband got home, he and the kids rebuilt an entirely new city. Complete with an airport that had a very large traffic control tower. Really, the ideas are endless.
Next time everyone is stuck inside, beat boredom with this simple idea. It might just be painter’s tape on the carpet, but to the imagination, it can be anything. It gets everyone involved with the fun. A great family activity.
