I was so excited to find the perfect Santa gift for our daughter this year. However, we had a little “oops”. My child found their Santa present.

Here is an idea of what to do when a child finds the Santa gift this holiday season. I’ve even put together a Santa Letter printable just for this occasion.

My Child Found Their Santa Present – Now What?

One afternoon, when I was quickly exchanging something, my mother sat out in the car with my two kids. My son unbuckled himself and began exploring the back of our car.

I had completely forgotten that our daughter’s Santa gift was hidden back there until the weather was better for me to sneak it into the house.

My sweet boy. He was so excited to share with his sister that he found her gift.

It was completely innocent but my daughter was devastated. She knew immediately what the gift was and she was frozen with what to do.

My mother felt horrible but what do you do? My daughter was hesitant to tell me because she didn’t want me to be disappointed.

All the while my son is just excited that his sister is getting the one gift she wanted this Christmas. It sounds like a travesty but honestly, it was quite a sweet moment.

The only drawback was that this was my daughter’s Santa gift and she wholeheartedly believes in the magic of Santa.

This is where my mom quickly came up with an idea of what to do now that my child found their Santa present.

What To Do When A Child Finds The Santa Gift

My mom explained to my daughter that Santa doesn’t always have the gift item she wanted at his workshop. Sometimes, some of the gifts we want are from other places.

In order to ensure that my daughter received this popular item this year, Santa dropped off the gift early to our home for Mom and Dad to be his special elf helper this year.

We were instructed to hold onto it and keep it safe to put under the tree this Christmas.

I loved this so much and my daughter has literally walked around telling everyone how I am an honorary elf.

It really helped her feel better about the gift being found. I also was happy that her Santa gift is still just as special and will be loved when opened on Christmas day.

Santa Letter Printable About Early Gift Drop Off

Since my mom swooped in with such a great way to save some Christmas magic with what to do when a child finds the Santa gift, I thought I would create a Santa Letter printable about dropping off the gift early.

This way, if your child found their Santa present, you can show them this letter that you received from Santa about holding onto their gift.

I thought it might be a fun way to keep some of the magic intact this holiday season. Click the image below to print!
