Are you doing the Churro Challenge at Disneyland during Pixar Fest? I have to kind of chuckle a little bit as I did the Churro Challenge before it was cool with the AP Churro Challenge. I’ll take a moment to pat on the back that myself and a handful of others were on this weeks before the AP Churro Challenge announcement. *dusts off shoulders*
My bragging aside, I want to share with you my honest thoughts for each churro in the Churro Challenge so you can prepare those taste buds. I am a huge churro fan and if I have to choose a churro or a Dole Whip, I’m probably going to choose the churro.
I’ll say that the different flavors aside from the classic were interesting but the churro challenge was a lot of fun finding the carts and filming Instagram Stories. If you are an AP and want to participate in the Churro Challenge for the button prize, it is a different and fun way to have a scavenger hunt at Disneyland.
Churro Challenge at Disneyland
Let’s break down the Churro Challenge flavors. Remember to still give each a try even if you aren’t a fan of the flavors. They might surprise you!
The Strawberry Churro at Tomorrowland near the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
While this churro isn’t on the AP Churro Challenge map and I am unsure if it is still around, I will say this was NOT my favorite churro at all. If it has disappeared from the park, I can see why. I am going to be perfectly honest that this was a one or two bite situation to try it and I threw it away.
The Strawberry Churro honestly smelled horrible and it tasted like a really bad breakfast pastry; maybe twice over. The aftertaste wasn’t terrible but it is toughing through to that. Plus, it is a mess! My lips and teeth were pink for a while after trying it. I can see why the Cast Members had gloves on while serving this one.
Kevin’s Churro, a fruity lemon delight at Town Square Churro Cart, Main Street, U.S.A.
This churro wasn’t bad but not nearly what I was expecting. I honestly could not taste any lemon at all. It simply tasted like a lightly sugared churro. I was prepared for more of a sour flavor but didn’t get that.
Presto Rabbit Churro, a carrot cake lover’s dream at New Orleans Square Churro Cart
I am not a huge carrot cake fan so I was preparing myself for the worst on this one. However, I found the raisin carrot cream cheese frosting to not be so bad. The churro is topped with cinnamon sugar, much like the classic, so it is really the frosting that gives it the flavor. The frosting wasn’t overly sweet and the carrot cake flavor was really only a part of the aftertaste. Just enough to give it that cake flavor without overpowering.
Ants on a Log Churro, a donut-iced cocoa cereal concoction at “a bug’s land” Churro Cart
This is one churro I did not get to in my challenge but it looks good! This probably would have been one of my favorites as the cocoa cereal didn’t look over the top and the icing was well crystalized over the top of the churro.
Coco Churro, a spiced cocoa treat at Frontierland Churro Cart
This was my favorite churro out of all of them. The spiced Mexican chocolate dipping sauce was a very true Mexican chocolate flavor. Working in the coffee industry for many years, I recognized it immediately as one of my favorite chocolate syrups used in specialty drinks. Just enough of a kick but sweet as ever. The churro itself features Ghirardelli Chocolate and vanilla bean dusted with salted cinnamon sugar so even the churro just by itself is pretty good.
The churro is my favorite snack at Disneyland. The Churro Challenge is a lot of fun and even though I wasn’t an overall fan of all of the flavors, it still was a great time finding the different carts and giving each a try. I think it is pretty cool that Disneyland offers this fun challenge to AP holders and I hope perhaps in the future they might open something like this up to the general public as well.
If the Disney Parks aren’t currently offering a Churro Challenge, never fear. Start your own! Have fun using social media, like Insta Stories, to try each churro currently available. You don’t need a map or a special event to have a good time. I’ve seen my friend Becca at Love Our Crazy Life enjoying her own Holiday Churro Challenge!
From one Disneyland churro fan to another, I hope you get a chance to have fun on the Churro Challenge. After all, even as a previous Walt Disney World Cast Member, I will say that Disneyland churros are the best. Enjoy!
