My husband and I recently set up the CUJO Smart Firewall in our home. We’ve tried other similar products, but I’ve always felt like we’ve stumbled through getting them to work. The internet can be a very scary place. I try and ensure we are well protected online in our home. As a work-at-home parent, I’m needing to not only protect my family but also my business. CUJO offers business-level internet security and is basically an antivirus for your entire home network.
CUJO Smart Firewall Protects Easily and Efficiently
The first thing we noticed about the CUJO Smart Firewall was that it is kind of cute. CUJO’s moods alert you to threats and if the device is working properly. A great visual to have. The second thing was how quick and easy it was to set up. One CUJO device will secure all devices connecting to the WiFi router. At the time of setup, we had over ten devices connected to our WiFi router. I was busy watching a Live Stream when my husband was connecting CUJO. Thanks to the blazing fast 1GB Ethernet connection, I didn’t miss a beat.
Quick Tip: My husband wanted me to mention. On our Comcast router, we had to disable the DHCP. Do not turn it back on. Once we disabled that, CUJO activated properly with no issues. The app offers support for disabling DHCP under “technical” in the “help” link under the sign in.
Immediately after installing, we were able to get help from CUJO’s support team. The tip that I mentioned above only tripped us up for a few short minutes, but CUJO was already emailing and offering a support call. We were able to figure it out without the need for the support team, but I appreciate how quickly they were on board to help. I’ll admit too, I locked us out of the app at first by entering the wrong email. Oops! Tech support emailed me back right away and actually had a personal touch to the email. What?! Do people do that anymore?! CUJO does!
The CUJO App
CUJO Smart Firewall connects to the router, but it is controlled via the app. The CUJO app is pretty simple to understand. All devices can be seen with virus protection highlighted at the top. Threat details are also visible.
Great Parental Controls
The app also makes it very simple to set parental controls for all connected devices. Parental controls include:
- internet filter
- time limits
- social media monitoring
- pause internet
- alerts and reporting
- remote administration
- user profiles and settings
Everyone in the house can create their own profile with their devices attached. I like this feature because I can put all of my kids’ devices on their profile and control them all at once. Filters can be set to block selected website categories. I can also whitelist websites to allow certain websites regardless of category. This is something to think about if you might allow your child to be on one social platform but prefer them not to be on another. You can easily select the “social” filter but allow what websites you want.
CUJO Protects Everything Right Away
CUJO is a pretty friendly device to keep not so friendly things offline to our home. I like how simple it is to set up, the support team and the simplicity of the parental controls. Not to mention the peace of mind of having a device that is enhancing our online security. If you’re in the market for something that works as an antivirus for your entire home network, check out CUJO at Best Buy. No downloading this software, that software to multiple devices. It’s cost-effective compared to other devices that require subscriptions. Just plug it in, connect and setup to start protecting every device in your home right away!
Thinking about getting a smart home system? I recommend checking out the Hive.
